Most Invisalign patients achieve their desired smile results in about under a year!
At your consultation, Dr. Lindsey Cerdas will examine your teeth and take x-rays to determine if your orthodontic problems can be corrected with Invisalign. If any tooth decay or gum disease is detected, this needs to be treated before beginning Invisalign treatment.
Digital impressions will be taken of your teeth and sent to the Invisalign lab where they will create your aligners. Using the digital scan of your mouth, we can produce a precise 3D model of your mouth and digitally plan your treatment from start to finish so there will be no surprises. You can see what your teeth will look like by the end of treatment.
Once we receive your first several sets of aligners, you’ll return to the office, where Dr. Cerdas will make sure they fit perfectly. She’ll provide you with detailed instructions about how long to wear your aligners and how to care for them. Every 6 weeks or so, you’ll stop by our office to pick up your next few sets of aligners and check-in with Dr. Cerdas so she make sure your smile is on the right track.
You will return to Perkasie Dental Loft every few weeks for checkups so we can check on your progress and ensure that your teeth are moving as they should as compared to the digital mapping we have on record. Treatment can be affected if you do not wear your aligners for 22 hours per day. At these appointments, you will receive enough aligners to change them every 2 weeks.
There are so many advantages to choosing clear aligners over traditional braces. The transparent material makes them invisible and they are removable which makes them easier to clean.
Because you can take your aligners out when you eat, you can eat or drink whatever you’d like as long as you clean your teeth and aligners before placing them back in.
Many patients experience faster results with clear aligner therapy than with traditional braces. Custom-crafted aligners that are swapped out every 2 weeks apply gentle pressure to your teeth, resulting in a more comfortable, and quicker, treatment.
The length of treatment varies depending on the severity of your dental problems. Clear aligners are best suited for mild to moderate orthodontic problems. The average length of treatment is between 12-18 months but can be as short as 6 months or as long as 24 months for very overcrowded teeth.
For the best results, you need to wear your clear aligners for 22 hours a day, only taking them out for up to 2 hours to eat and clean your teeth. It’s also important to take care of your aligners by regularly cleaning them and properly storing them so the mold does not become disfigured.
In recent years, something known as Invisalign “attachments” or ClearCorrect “engagers” have changed the game in terms of their ability to address more severe dental malocclusions. These attachments are teeth-colored buttons made of compost resin and are attached to your tooth’s enamel.
Your aligners then hook onto these attachments which come in various shapes and sizes. They help apply just the right amount of pressure to encourage shifting or rotating of teeth in certain directions. They may be used in conjunction with elastics.
However, patients with a severe bite or alignment issue and children under 13 years old are not good candidates for Invisalign or ClearCorrect. This is because, in addition to straightening the teeth, the jaw also needs to be shifted into the right position. If you cannot commit to wearing your aligners for a minimum of 20 hours (ideally 22 hours) a day then you will not reap the benefits of clear aligners.
Caring for your clear aligners is as simple as remembering to take them out every type you eat or drink hot liquids and to brush your teeth. You will need to rinse out your aligners when you take them out to get rid of bacteria that could become trapped in the aligners from your saliva.
You will also want to clean your teeth before putting the aligners back in so you don’t trap acid or food particles in the aligners which can stain your teeth or the aligners and lead to tooth decay. Do not consume hot liquids while wearing your aligners, because the temperature can warp the aligner mold, making them less effective at shifting your teeth into the right place.
To clean your aligners, you should gently brush them twice a day with a soft-bristled toothbrush and denture cleaner. You should also regularly soak them in a denture cleaner for 30 minutes at a time. You can also use Invisalign cleaning crystals or Steraligner. ClearCorrect also offers cleaning crystals for clear aligners.
Clear aligners are removable, so you can still eat all of your favorite foods!
